The Piper J2 and J3 Cub light airplanes were the predecessors of the military Piper L-4 “Grasshopper”. More than 5000 L-4s were delivered to the U.S. Government during World War II. They were classified as Liason and saw combat as observation, courier and general light transportation in all theaters of World War II.
